Background Information
On February 5th, 2025, the Youth Affairs Department of the Karenni State Interim Executive Council was established under the Karenni State Youth Policy.
Structure of the Department
The Department of Youth Affairs is headed by the Head of Department, with three Deputy Heads nominated and selected by the Karenni State Youth Affairs Committee. The department comprises the Office Administration and Finance Sub-department, the Rehabilitation Sub-department, the Youth and Politics Affairs Sub-department, the Youth and Development Sub-department, and the Youth and Employment Opportunities Sub-department.

Objectives
- To establish the Karenni Youth Affairs Department as the official representative body of youth and the Karenni State Youth Policy.
- To effectively implement youth-related activities in accordance with the Karenni Youth Policy while fulfilling responsibilities.
- To strengthen connections and collaboration among youth groups during the interim revolutionary period, enhance youth capacity, and promote greater youth participation in future leadership roles and the development of a new federal democratic system.
Activities
The Office Administration and Finance Sub-department handles staff appointments and overall administrative management. The Youth and Rehabilitation Sub-department is preparing to establish a rehabilitation centre for youth affected by drug addiction.
The Youth and Politics Sub-department is working to promote mutual understanding and trust among youth groups by providing political awareness training and sharing updates on the current political situation. Additionally, it is organizing meetings and discussions with the Youth Affairs Committee and various Ethnic Youth Committees in preparation for conducting a youth survey.
The Sub-department of Youth and Development is preparing to organize training programs that support the overall development of youth, as well as to coordinate with youth organizations and civil society groups to provide services in education, healthcare, and sports for all youth, including those who lost limbs or were physically injured during the revolutionary period.
The Youth and Employment Sub-department is planning to develop essential career support programs for young people and establish information centres, as well as working on business plans that will help people earn a living through entrepreneurship based on local products.
