Background Information

    The Interim Executive Council established the Department of Home Affairs on September 7th, 2023, and has been working together with staff members of the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) and related professionals, and informed individuals.

Structure of the Department

    The Department of Home Affairs is led by one Head of Department and four Deputy Heads, and it is composed of sub-departments: the Public Administration Sub-department, the Law Enforcement and Security Sub-department (Karenni State Police), the Immigration Sub-department, and the Emergency and Rescue Sub-department. It also handles municipal and welfare services for the public.

 

Activities of the Home Affairs Department

    The Public Administration Sub-department was established in 17 townships, with administrative officers appointed at the township, village tract, and village levels to perform various administrative functions. The Police Sub-department currently operates with a total of 629 police personnel, including 106 CDM officers. It has set up six township police offices, 16 police stations, nine police outposts, and five checkpoints, and is conducting law enforcement and security activities. From September 2021 to March 2025, a total of 567 cases were managed.

    The Immigration Sub-department, with a total of 92 staff members, is conducting inspections of border entries and exits as well as internal migration from outside the state. In addition, household and family registration of residents’ data are being collected in 17 townships. The Emergency and Rescue Sub-department is carrying out emergency rescue operations, firefighting efforts, and water distribution to drought-affected areas.
